Day, one of Black Canyon after getting past some substantial road construction I stopped at the visitor center picked up a couple postcards and my sticker for my cooler. I did the overlook trails that are located behind the visitor center before setting off on the scenic drive Of the south rim. There are many different places to stop each with a 100 to 600 yard one way length my favorite being dragons point which gives a beautiful view of the river that cuts through the Canyon and is one of the shortest walks.
After finishing the loop I left the park and drove to Hotchkiss, a small town on highway 92 just east of black canyon. I got to town before I could check in so I stopped at Pat’s bar and grill for lunch. Mediocre food and no service. It’s very clear that they don’t have enough people working to handle the number of people that come in and it was maybe half full. I will definitely be trying something else tomorrow.
I was able to check into my Airbnb at three and it is the cutest little tiny house with a lofted bed. It has air conditioning running water and a flushing, toilet television, and Internet. I couldn’t be happier. This is exactly what I needed for the next two nights.
I had dinner and caught up on some blogging and have just been watching reruns of “lie to me”. I often wonder if I wasn’t autistic if I would’ve been able to spot the signs sooner, the body language and the facial expressions that my marriage was over I feel like my ex very clearly knew it was over long before I was made aware of that fact.
Day 2
Today I slept in, made myself an iced coffee and then drove to the North Rim Ranger post for Black Canyon. This side of the canyon is much more desolate and isolated. I saw fewer than 10 cars and fewer than 30 people total. The Ranger station is not consistently staffed so there are out houses and potable water stations available.
I drove the N. Rim Rd., which similar to the S. Rim Rd. had overlooks and trails that you could get on however diss similarly the North trails were substantially longer for the most part and would’ve been hikes that I would’ve wanted to get up earlier in the morning for had I made the decision to do them Summary for people and for people to wake up early in the morning and do sunrise, hikes, or people who like to hike into the evening and are interested in stargazing and camping in the backcountry.
One is not better than the other it just has to do with what your personal preferences and I do appreciate that this park offers both options as I had initially been very concerned that I wouldn’t find a way to feel successful at Black Canyon.
After my N. Rim Rd. Loop I drove back to my Airbnb to freshen up a little bit before driving to Cedaredge for the snowcapped cider company. They are in a state cider maker, which means all of their fruit products that go into their ciders are grown in the state of Colorado by them. The ciders I had were all very bright. They were tarted and a little bit citrusy and refreshing. She has one countless awards for these and it is definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area. The hard bit is that google Will try to direct you to their bottling facility. You should be looking for the address on Main Street in Cedaredge. In addition to the flight of cider and the glass of lemon and lavender cider, I also had a delicious turkey and pesto Panini all in with tip I spent about $30.
I wasn’t feeling great this evening, so I decided to just stay in, and push fluids because I don’t think I drank enough water today to balance Drinking cider.
Also realized a worst case scenario of sleeping in a lofted bed and that A ladder every time I need to use the bathroom and feeling crummy.
Day 3
Woke up. Took a nice shower. Then as I was cleaning the dishes dozens of Earwigs (pincher bugs) started literally crawling out of the woodwork. Not a dangerous bug but no one likes to see that many bugs in the space they spent the last 2 nights sleeping in.
I finished the dishes, packed the car, drained the coolers and got on my way.
Today's drive was longer than it needed to be due to inaccurate directions and lack of warning for road closures but after 7 hours of driving I made it to my next stop. More on that in the next post.
