What's in a name

 8 years ago today, my name changed from my maiden to married name. A name I took on with pride, because I'd made a life long commitment to my partner. 

1 year ago today I had my court meeting to finalize my divorce with my no longer life long partner. a week after that I changed my name again. 

Today I head into the Global Entry offices to change the final document so that nothing still carries his last name. My goal was to get everything done within 1 year, and while it's close I will do it. 

I don't think I'll ever change my name again. I do hope I get married again someday. I like the notion of someone to walk through life with. But I like the name I have. I like the connection to blood family, to family that wont ever turn their backs on me. An anchoring point.
