Monitoring my Consumption - January

 Last year I really focused on minimizing my makeup / beauty collection to what I actually reach for or have a desire to use.  I used up over 100 beauty items and decluttered over 120, but I purchased 66.  

Some of those were in the regular use category- some where not. This year my collection is reasonable. It's less about using up and decluttering and more about being mindful and getting use out of what I have. I also am working to declutter other aspects of my life.  Specifically clothing/shoes/accessories.  So my monthly check ins will include a variety of things

Clothing Out: I kicked the year off by boxing up clothing and working to reduce the size of my wardrobe- which is frankly one of the most overwhelming aspects of my life- especially when I wear like 5 different outfits. 

I boxed up 7 boxes this month- but it only counts if I actually get the boxes to Goodwill - and since that didn't happen they don't count.  

16 items (socks and underwear) were thrown away

Clothing In: 

2 Shackets - a current staple in my wardrobe because it's chilly inside my house and in my classroom 

1 pair of Ugg like boots -so warm and cozy

4 new shirts (1 tank, 2 short, 1 long) 

1 pair of black leggings - because I somehow have none left

1 Pair of leather flats for the summer- my old ones are on their way out the door

1 Tiara -Do I need a reason? 

Beauty Empties:

Ivory Oak Sample Pumpkin- Small Sample pumpkin soap that comes with orders- No price associated. 

Glow Juice Mini is a mask from Earth Harbor.  This was a roll over from December. I really like this very light weight mask.  It leaves my skin with a smooth refreshed feeling.  I got 8 uses out of this mini size- a little goes a long way. $8

Marina Mini a brightening serum drop from Earth Harbor. Another Roll over from December. I have used up a full size of this historically and knew I would enjoy it. I got about 20 uses out of the mini bottle (less than a half a dropper to do my full face) which makes this a great way to test out this product.  I wasn't so sure the value was there based on the 2 products I used up in December, but that's because for my skin I didn't love them. But as a way to test new products. this is actually a really nice little kit. $8 

Karuna Skin TONE Sheet Mask- 2x It's a mask- nothing fancy not sure it does much, but I like a mask about 1x a week either sheet or wash off so I have it and it fits the bill. It came out of a fabfitfun box for Winter 2022.  $5 each

Karuna Skin DRENCH sheet mask- Similarly to the TONE mask this isn't anything fancy, but it does leave my skin feeling hydrated.  I prefer Sheet masks to wash off masks, so I am using up what I have before purchasing more. $5

Deluxe Sample of Body Wash- It's what I used on my Honeymoon- so there are serious scent memories.  No associated cost- but it's empty 

Kiehl's Facial Moisturizer Sample- 7ml (0.25 oz)  I love this facial moisturizer and will probably purchase a full size of this when I run out of the moisturizers I currently have.  It is so thick and creamy and a great option for my very dry skin- especially in the winter months.  -No cost associated

Heated Eye masks I picked these up this month to do with sheet masks and used 6. I like the idea of these, but half (the fragranced ones) only lasted for 15 minutes, while the unscented ones lasted for over 30. I will try other brands as it was something that made a noticeable difference in my quality of sleep. ($4.80)

Farmacy Honey Halo Jumbo I got this years ago as a face moisturizer- but ended up not being able to use it for that. I finished it up by using it on my body. It's nice, but I'd never spend that much on a body moisturizer- I also don't like having to scoop by hand- feels less than sanitary at this point. $74

Farmacy Daily Greens Moisturizer. This came with my toner in a Christmas Bundle- Farmacy nominally assigned it a value of $15- Not sure if I feel like that's accurate. I wouldn't buy it on its own. The texture is like day old jello-it looks the part too. 

Beauty Declutter:

Dove Deodorant Mini- I've been having adverse reactions to deodorant for the last several months.  I am going through every product I own and trying it out- if I react to it- I toss it. If I don't I keep it.  This was a toss. $1.19

Beauty Progress:

I am trying something new- keeping track of how many uses I have on products that rarely get used.  Once I use it 20 times I can rotate it out, but if at the end of a quarter I haven't hit those 20 times I will declutter the product.  Not all of my products are in this group but I do have several facial sprays, serums and wash off masks in pots or tubes that I'm just trying to get more use out of.
